     Joseph Foreman Birkhead was born on 18 December 1834 in Daviess County, Kentucky. He was the son of Reuben Wesley Birkhead and Nancy Foreman. His mother's second husband James Lashbrook was appointed as his guardian and the guardian for his infant brothers and sisters by the Court of Daviess County, Kentucky on 11 November 1839 following the death of his father Wesley Birkhead. Joseph Foreman Birkhead married Narcissa P Moseley on 5 February 1861 in Daviess County, Kentucky.

Joseph Foreman Birkhead appeared on the 1880 census, agricultural schedule of Boston Precinct, Daviess County, Kentucky; as owner of a farm that included 150 acres of improved land and 94 acres of unimproved land. The total value including land, buildings, machinery and livestock was 2,430 dollars. Wages of 48 dollars paid for 8 weeks of work produced 480 dollars worth of produce. Livestock included three horses, and two milk cows which produced 150 pounds of butter the previous year. The farm also included 4 additional cattle, one of which was slaughtered, 31 sheep and 15 lambs which produced 45 pounds of fleece, 20 swine and 35 chickens which produced 90 eggs. During the previous year 15 acres of land were used to produce 300 bushels of indian corn, 6 acres were used to produce 120 bushels of oats. Additional crops included 15 pounds of potatoes, 7 pounds of sweet potatoes, and 3700 pounds of tobacco. crop produced 10 pounds of potatoes, and 3700 pounds of tobacco. Two acres of land held 20 apple trees and 7 peach trees which produced 20 bushels of apples. Fifty cords of wood were also cut which were valued at 62 dollars.

Benjamin Thaddeus Birkhead was widowed with the death of Rosa A (Williams) Birkhead on 22 July 1896 at Daviess County, Kentucky. Benjamin Thaddeus Birkhead married Ellen Bow in 1899 in Daviess County, Kentucky. In April 1912 Benjamin moved from Owensboro, Kentucky to St. Augustine, Florida with his family because he had been declining in health for the past few years. His health continued to decline until his death.

Thomas Larry Birkhead, and a daughter Nancy Ann who married a Foulke. They also had three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren at the time of Ollie Mae's death in 1971.

Thomas was a leading Democratic politician in Daviess County for 28 years. He served five terms as the elected county commissioner of the eastern division on the fiscal court starting in 1937. In 1959 he was elected as county judge and was re-elected in 1961 without opposition. He was defeated when he sought a third term but only by 291 votes where more than 15,000 were cast. During his tenure as judge he worked as probate judge, juvenile judge, judge of the Quarterly Court and presiding officer of the fiscal court.
