Samuel Benjamin Lashbrooke was born on 21 April 1848 in Mason County, Kentucky. He was the son of Peter Lee Lashbrooke and Frances Baylor Morton. Samuel was taught at home until he was around eight years of age. He then entered the Lewisburg Academy of Mason County and attended that school until he was sixteen.
In 1864 Samuel enlisted in the 11th Kentucky Copnfederate Cavalry underColonel Dick Morgan of Southwest Virginia. He was later detailed to General Breckenridge's Escort and participated in the battles of Bull's Gap, Morristown, Strawberry Plains, and other lighter engagements during the Knoxville campaign. In the engagement at Kingsport on 13 December 1864 Samuel was taken prisoner and was retained at Camp Chase in Ohio until June 1865. In June 1865 Samuel was released from Camp Chase and returned to Kentucky. He was then sent to Washington Lee University in Lexington, Virginia where he remained until the summer of 1868.
In the fall of 1868 Samuel started studying law in the office and under the instruction of Judge E.C. Phister. He completed his studies with Judge Emory Whittaker of Maysville and was admitted to the bar in 1870. He then begain the practice of lat at Mount Olivet in Roberison County, Kentucky.
In 1872 he left Mount Olivet and traveled through Missouri and Kansas searching for an eligible location to renew his law practice. He selected Butler in Bates County, Missouri and in October 1877 formed a partnership in the practice of law with the Hon. Charles C. Bassett. Samuel Benjamin Lashbrooke married Sallie Pennebaker and they apparently had no children.
Samuel Benjamin Lashbrooke left a will on 23 November 1885 at Bates County, Missouri, appointing F.J. Tygard and Thomas J. Smith, both of Bates County, as his executors. The will empowered them to carry out the provisions of his will and to sell and convey any or all of his real estate or proerty and divide the proceeds as provided in his will among his brothers and sisters.
In the specific provisions of his will Samuel identified two insurance policies, one with the Missouri Mutual Insurance Company and the other with he New York Mutual Life Insurance Company and indicated they were to be collected and applied to his depts with the balance being distributed with his other property. He left one thousand dollars to his mother rances Lashbrooke of Mason County, Kentucky. He left his watch and chain to his nephew William L. Van Arsdell of Fleming County, Kentucky and his gun and all accounterments to his brother James Lashbrook of Mason County, Kentucky. He left one hundred dollars to his brother Thomas M. Lashbrooke and two hundred dollars to his nephew Edward L. Lashbrooke of New Orleans, Louisiana.
He left the remainder of his property to be equally given to his brothers John R. Lashbrooke, Thomas M. Lashbrooke, James Lashbrooke and his sisters Mary Dimmitt, Frances A. Lashbrooke, Laura Van Arsdell and Bettie L. Peters.

Peter Lashbrooke was born on 10 October 1831 in Kentucky. He was the son of Peter Lee Lashbrooke and Frances Baylor Morton. Peter was appointed as a cadet to West Point on 14 March 1850. His father Peter provided his assent to the appointment granting his full permission to sign articles by which he would be bound to serve the United States for at least eight years.
