Frances Asbury Taylor was born on 10 March 1847 in Kentucky. He was the son of Joshua F Taylor and Jane Dick. Frances Asbury Taylor married Susan Mariah Porter in 1872. Frank graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and the Hospital Medical College of Louisaville in 1890. He received his license as an Allopath Physician in 1900. In February of 1901 the talk of the town were divorce proceedings between T.L. Humble and his wife who was the daughtger of an ex-County Judge John Irvine. It was rumored that for several months Frances Talor had been seen around the Humble residence and it had been predicted that his actions would result in a separation in the Humble marriage.
Mr. Humble became violently ill after drinking some milk. Their daughter also drink some of the milk and also became very ill. After recovering Humble blamed his wife and said he had been poisoned. It was said that many of his neighboors believed Frances furnished the poison and that Humble's wife put it in the milk. On 14 June 1901 Dr. Frances Taylor was shot in the afternoon at Russell Springs. The shooter was Terry Humble and the altercation resulted from the divorce proceedings that were pending in the Russell Circuit Court. Several months before Humble had publicly claimed that he and his child had been poisoned by the medicine given him in milk by his wife and that Dr. Taylor had given her the poison. He also charged tha Dr. Taylor had "invaded the sanctity of his home, ruined his wife and destroyed his happiness."
Dr. Taylor had left the country and divorce proceedings were filed by Humble. Taylor had returned several weeks prior because he was summoned by the defence to appear for a deposiion. During the deposition Humble entered the room and shot him twice with one shot in the lung. There were several people in the room at the time and two others were also shot.
It seems the shooting was not a surprise to most local folks who knew Terry Numble. It was said he made no threates but it was generally believed he would try to kill Taylor at their first meeting. On Friday, 25 October 1901, the Russell Circuit closed its session. The most important cases handled had been that of the charges against Mrs. Humble and Dr. Taylor. The court granted Humble and his wife a divorce and dismissed the charges againt Dr. Taylor. Although the intictment against Humble for shooting Dr. Taylor remained it was thought it unlikely that he will ever be tried.
