Andrew fought in the Revolutionary War serving in the 9th Virginia Regiment under Colonel Burrley at albermarle Barracks. He fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain on 7 October 1780. This battle was said to be the turning point in the war. One of the sources used for Andrew's family showed Nathaniel, Rebecca, and Rhoda all being the children of his second wife Ann Wilson. However, other perhaps more relaible records show that his first wife did not die until after all three of these children were born and that his marriage to Anne occurred after they were born. Thus, the author believes all children were born to his first wife Elizabeth.
