David Cosby was one of the first eleveen vestrymen after the organization of the parish of Fredericksville in Louisa County, Virginia after the seperation of Louisa county from Hanover county in 1742. David signed a lengthy test which was required of vestryment at that period of England's history which included an oath of allegiance to his Majesty King George the Second and an oath of abjuration declaring that no foreign Prince, Prelate, Person, State, or Potentate would have any power or authority within this realm. The test also included a declaration that he believed "that there was not any transubstantiation in the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, or in the Elements of bread and wine at or after the consecration thereof by any person whatsoever."
David Cosby died in September 1770 in Louisa County, Virginia, at age 67.
