Marie Louise Walz was born on 7 March 1907 in Virginia. Stephen DuVal

Stephen DuVal was born on 3 December 1782 in Powhatan County, Virginia. He was the son of Joseph DuVal and Elizabeth Sheppard. Stephen DuVal married Lucy Johnson on 5 October 1808. Stephen fought in the War of 1812. According to his stepson Luthur Cottrell, Stephen loved chestnuts and peanuts so much that he always had one or the other in his pocket and ate them so frequently that the direction of his riding could be determined by the trail of hulls he dropped.
His estate, Cedar Grove, was near Bosher's Dam on the James River. It is said that he built the dam and that the water from the river backed up into a creek that he used to run a nail manufactory, the first in virginia. It was also said that he owned the first iron foundry in the State. Seth Alexander DuVal was born on 7 January 1846 in Richmond, Virginia, eight miles southwest on the James river. He was the son of Stephen DuVal and Susan Halsey. Seth Alexander DuVal also went by the name of Seth.
Seth remained on the old homestead until late in the Civil War when, in December 1863, he enlisted in Campany I, Tenth Regiment of the Virginia Confederate Cavalry Volunteers. He remained in service until the close of the war and was in the battles of Spottsylvania, Wilderness, CourtHouse, Cold Harbor, Supona Church, White Oak Swamp, Ream's Station, Hatcher's Run, and Five Forks Virginia. It was said he was under fire constantly for twelve months and never got wounded. At the close of the war he went to live with his brother in Goochland County, Virginia where he remained until January 1866 when he moved to Daviess County, Kentucky. Seth served in the Confederate Army in the cavalry under General William Lee who was the son of Robert E. Lee. He took part in several major engagements and was detailed as a scout for General Early following the battle of Haw Shop. He received his parole at Appomattox Court House. After the war he went to kentucky in 1866 where he found employment in a brickyard.
Seth Alexander DuVal married Mary Alice Haynes, daughter of Samuel Haynes and Mary Ann Barnhill, on 10 October 1867. Seth owned a large farm, which he purchased from his father-in-law, of 146 acres all of which was under cultivation except for a few acres of timber. He raised tobacco, corn, wheat, hay, oats and stock. He was a member of the Democratic party and was a Baptist.

The farm included 4 additional cattle and four calves, one of which died. The farm also included 19 swine and 13 chickens which produced 160 eggs. During the previous year 15 acres of land were used to produce 300 bushels of indian corn and 5 acres produced 44 bushels of wheat. Additional crop produced 5,800 pounds of tobacco. Five acres of land held 140 apple trees which produced 20 bushels of apples. The farm also included lumber which was valued at 30 dollars.
In 1885 Seth and Mary Alice moved to Kansas because they were seeking a climate for Seth's health. They lived for awhile in Altamont where Seth established the first bank before they settled on a farm about four miles north of Edna, Kansas. In the fall of 1909 Seth returned to Virginia for a short visit to friends and relatives. He was widowed with the death of Mary Alice (Haynes) DuVal on 4 July 1909 in Edna, Kansas. In 1922 Seth moved to Oklahoma to be with his granddaughter Mrs. E.D. Glass.
