Imogene "Gene" Penn Owens suffered the death of her brother, Edwin Owens on 19 May 1895 at Grenada County, Mississippi. The Owens family must have been having problems with trespassers on their land as on 25 October 1956, The Grenada County Weekly published two notices. The first read: "All our land in beat one, west of Grenada on Holcomb road posted against all forms of trespassing, No shooting, cutting trees or throwing bottles allowed on above land." This notice was signed by Mrs. Jack Yates, Mrs. L. H. Harris and Miss Lida Owens. The second notice signed by "The children of J. H. Owens" read: "The 500 acres of land in Beat One known as the J. H. and D. T. Owens places are hereby posted against hunting and all forms of trespass. No one in Grenada County has the authority to give you permission to hunt on this land."
