The school was founded in 1825 and soon became widely-known and drew patronage from most of the states of the Union.

Camilla wrote her sister Sarah Frances on 11 September 1830 from Port Gibson, Mississippi. This was one of many letters to her sister. In her letter she indicates that Port Gibson was a very healthy place to live and shared her concern over the health of her relatives in Kentucky because of an alarming number of cases of congestive fever. She indicated she was getting very religious. She also shared that she was currently reading Gibbons History of the decline and fall of the Roman empire which was eight volumes in length.

Andrew William Porter Parker was born in 1792 in Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky. He was the son of (?) Parker. A bond for the marriage of Andrew William Porter Parker and Camilla S Brashear was signed on 1 September 1831 in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, in the sum of 50 pounds signed by AWP Parker and A.R. Macey.

Andrew William Porter Parker died on 22 November 1837 in Port Gibson, Claiborne County, Mississippi, at the residence of his brother Dr. James P. Parker. He was buried in Wintergreen Cemetery, Port Gibson, Claiborne County, Mississippi, Section B, Lot 40 (Parker) with Masonic honors.

His estate was probated on 25 December 1837 at Claiborne County Probate Court, Port Gibson, Claiborne County, Mississippi. James P. Parker was appointed by the Probate Court of Claiborne County, Mississippi to administer his brother Andrew's Estate. The court also appointed five men to jointly inventory and appraise the goods, chattels and personal Estate of Andrew because he had died intestate. The final appraisal was signed and submitted to the Court on 29 December 1837 listing a total value of $1060.50. The inventory listed numerous items including one gold watch and chain, a looking glass, a large number of books listed by title and volume, a pair of saddle bags, one clock, a copy of the Constitution of the United States, a secretary, a pair of andirons, half interest in a gun, and a trunk.

An insolvent Notice on the Estate of Andrew W.P. Parker was published in the Port gibson Herald and Correspondent on 7 April 1848 after the reading and filing of the report of James P. Parker, Administrator. The report listed assets and liabilities of Andrew's Estate and was recorded in the Claiborne County Probate Court on the date of reading.

James P. Parker, the Administrator of Andrew's Estate, testified in the Claiborne County Probate Court on 24 September 1849 that Corilla M. Parker, the only child and sole distributee of Andrew's Estate, is a non-resident of Mississippi currently residing in the State of Kentucky. It seems likely that since Corilla was identified as the sole distributee that Andrew's other children Camile Parker and Alexander Irvine Parker, as well as his wife Camilla S (Brashear) Parker were deceased.

A notice was published in the Port Gibson Herald and Correspondent each week from 28 September 1849 to 21 December 1849 advertising for claimants to the Estate of Andrew W.P. Parker to appear before the Probate Court of the County of Claiborne on the fourth Monday and 24th day of December 1849 when the final accounting of the Estate would be published.
