Hamilton enlisted in the 52nd Regiment of the Kentucky Infantry Volunteers on 17 August 1863. According to family lore when his wife was dying from yellow fever he came home on furlough and was only able to watch her form the window because of fear of ontagion. Although the date of her death is unknown it is assumed to be in 1865 as his furlough was from 21 December 1864 until 11 January 1865. He rejoined his company in Bowling Green, Kentucky and served for seven more days until he was honorably discharged on 18 January 1865. Hamilton Duke Wade was widowed with the death of Mary Emeline Carpenter in 1865 in Kentucky.

Livestock included two horses, two mules, and two milk cows which produced 50 pounds of butter the previous year. The farm included 3 additional cattle which were purchased the previous year, one which was sold, and one which was slaughtered. The farm also included 50 chickens which produced 365 eggs. During the previous year 18 acres of land were used to produce 750 bushels of indian corn, 7 acres produced 100 bushels of oats, and 12 acres produced 100 bushels of wheat. Additional crop produced included 12 bushels of potatoes and 4,000 pounds of tobacco. One acre of land held 100 apple trees and 15 peach trees which produced 10 bushels of apples. Fifteen cords of lumber, valued at 30 dollars, were cut from the land in 1879. Her cause of death was pnumonia following a three week illness.

Mary A (Madison) Campbell died on 4 March 1901 at Three Springs, Warren County, Kentucky, at age 59 at 1:00 in the morning at her home. Funeral services were held in in her home, Three Springs, Warren County, Kentucky, at 10:00 AM by Rev. Johnson, pastor of Trinity church, assisted by Rev. M.M. Smith. Her casket was covered with ferns and evergreens and rare flowers. She was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, in Cemetery 1, Section C, Site C-303.

He further directed that following her death, the remainder of his estate be sold and equally divided between his children Rudie L. Potter, Herbert Campbell, and Florence Thomas. Reddie Letitia (Campbell) Potter and Henry Skiles Potter lived in April 1930 at Dade County, Florida, at 38 South West 20th Road in Miami.

Lindsy and Ida May had at least one child, Elmira Wade, who was born on 21 November 1890 in Chestrerfield county, Illinois. Elmira married Charles Leslie Rogers around 1903. Charles was born on 18 May 1886 in Athensville in Greene County, Illinois and died on 254 June 1962 in Lake City in Calhoun County, Iowa. According to census records Elmira and Charles had at least three children including Vera L. Rogers, Mary E. Rogers, and Elwin C. Rogers.

There were additional, rather complicated instructions in dealing with the funds in the event of the death of any of the named heirs. She appointed the Bowling Green Bank and Trust Company as the executor.

John and Mary Penner, and their children moved to Lawrence County, Illinois in late 1866 or early 1867.

John Campbell, Mary’s father, left a will on 19 January 1888 stating that Mary was to receive an equal share of his estate except that she was responsible for accounting for an amount equal to $1567.52 which had already been advanced to her by her father. Each of her brothers and sisters had also received various amounts in advance and also had to account for these in the final settlement. The 1900 census listed Mary as the mother of 10 children with only one still living. Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) Penner and John H Penner had eight children, seven of which died before John Penner according to his obituary. Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) Penner lived with James N Penner and Letha M (McCarroll) Penner on 16 April 1910 at 100 18th Street, Harrison Township, Vigo County, Indiana.

Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) Penner died on 26 June 1916 at 75 South 18th Street, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, at age 85 at 10:00 p.m. in her son Jame's home. Her cause of death was apoplexy from mitral insufficiency. Funeral services were held on 27 June 1916 in 75 South Eighteenth Street, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, in her son, James Penner's home. She was buried on 28 June 1916 in Lawrenceville, Lawrence County, Illinois.

Harley B Shields began military service on 27 June 1916 in the Army. He ended military service on 10 July 1919.
